adding fog or spotlights

Hi all, apologies if this has been covered before, i can't find it.

I fancy adding some fog or spotlights to the front.
if i add fogs:
1. Can i just wire from the existing foglight switch so they come on with the rear ones?
2. If not, do i just take a fresh live to them, via a new switch? Does it have to via the lights?

If i add spots:
same as 2. Above

Cheers

1. Possibility of rupturing the fuse, there's only one rear fog light and it's on a 10A fuse. VW use the first 'on' position of the fog light switch for the front fogs but it only switches a relay that powers the actual fog lights directly. It also prevents the fogs being used unless the side/head lights are on (legal requirement?) and (I think) the engine running
2. I belive some have done precisely that

It's a lot easier than it looks; the wiring from the switch to the relay box is already there, you just need a pair from the relay box out to the lights, a new pin installing in a connector block and a relay to plug into position 7 and that's it done!

aprt from i have an early Aircooled so no position 7 etc.

i'm generally ok with wiring etc as long as i know what i'm doing, but tbh relays are not something i've ever fitted so woyuld n't know where to start, what size to get etc.

There is an unused terminal on your existing fog light switch that is 'on' when the switch is in the first position from the 'off' position; the second being the rear fog. You'd need to utilise this as the +ve feed to the coil of a relay which in turn would connect the front fogs to a separate dedicated fused supply you'd have to install yourself.

Diagram of switch on page 237 of Aircooled Haynes Manual. E23 is the switch and terminal 83a is the one you need to connect the relay to.

Make sense?

I'm looking on getting some if these (I currently have front fogs but they don't work & are looking a bit manky):
