Headlight failure

Jumped in the van last night for a night away but the headlights and rear lights did not work, nothing on side, dipped or main beam.
Fuses are OK. I suspect it might be the relay or possibly the switch.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the lights on a 1984 1.9dg?

Side lights and headlight are on different circuit so it's almost certainly the headlight switch that has gone (it's the only place that those two circuits converge).

Well I took th eswitch out and there is continuity through the switch. I've established there is no power coming to the switch and if I put power into the switch the lights work so need to work my wat back from the switch towards the battery.
is there a relay to the lights. Which one is it/where is it?

Here's a clip of the Bentleys page for the watercooled 83/84:
I don't see how both the sidelights and headlights can have failed unless it is the switch ....
I guess that this circuit diagram may not reflect your wiring ....
There should be a Red/Yellow wire that has 12v on all the time.
And a Black/Yellow that only has 12v when the ignition is on.
Both these would need to fail for all the lights to be out.

Thanks for your effort, I'll have a look at that,

I don't seem to have any 12v at the switch. I have the following wires:
Yellow /white
Grey
Yellow grey.
I think the yellow/White is the feed. I've replaced all my fuses just to be sure.
Do any of the relays run the lights?

Confused - are you saying that your headlight switch has only 3 wires going to it??

Apologies to all. It would appear that the short circuit was in my brain and not in the camper van.
On Thursday evening I loaded up the van for a mid week wild camp. Jumped the in van, put out my right hand and turned on the light switch. It was dark, after 2 1/2 years I know where the light switch is. Nothing happened. Since Thursday night I have spent about 3 hours taking the switch apart, tracing wires and checking continuity, replacing all fuses in case my fuse numbers were wrong, checking relays etc.
On another thread Itchyfeet mentioned that the yellow and white wire usually runs to the fog lights. You know when a penny drops

I went to the van, sure enough the light switch is on the left and I had spent three hours trying to get the fog light switch to do what it wasn't designed to do!
So problem solved
Thanks for your contributions.

Age does this to you - I spent ages tracing the wiring in the boat as the heater wasn't working - same thing as you did, forgot there was another switch! Doh.
