High all. The question I have is in relation to the 3 contacts beside the red wire in the center of the photograph.

I tested these points and found that they were live with the ignition off. I then made made up a quick 12v socket and connected it. One wire to one of the above lives and the other to the earth crown located near the fuse box.

I tested it and it worked, however I disconnected it again until I found out was I right in doing what I did. Any opinions on this would be great as I am a novice when it comes to electrics. I could leave it for my mechanic brother or the electrician but just thought I would have a go myself. Also would I need to put a in-line fuse on the live going to the socket?

Looks ok to me but inline fuse is a must and it should match the mm2 amp rating of the cable or the max socket ratingyou or be lower id say a 10A fuse would be ok for most things
i would insulate those crimps on the socket end they look quite close to me

Thank you for the reply,I presume a few turns of insulation tape would be sufficient??

buy insulated crimps is best as tape can fall off but if you have a fuse worst case is the fuse blows.

Sorted! Put an in-line fuse near the connection with the VW fuse box. Its working a treat. Thanks for the advice.
