changed...starter connections...starter....bush.....and this morning....battery!!! (well I knicked it off Ritchie who starts on the flick of the switch).
Oh - earths done as well. But will check the gear box one again.
BUT>>>have noticed that if you wiggle the key slightly the cranking speeds up...actually sounds like it may start!
so...I have a new swtich (the white plastic bit that goes inside the barrel to be totally clear....but not as yet a replacement barrel. What do folks think...what needs replacing??

Switch is my vote. I wasted a lot of money on new ignition parts, similar symptoms to you. 5£ switch was all it was!
Pull the black connector off it and give it a good clean up and put it back on. The disturbing of it might spring it into life again. Be worth changing though, and a good spare to have in the back too

Yes, defo go for new switch, that way you can be pretty sure of taking out that weak link. I had a thread going on here, and like you, replaced oodles of parts at mucho expense before finally sorting it. I fitted a relay in the engine bay for a couple of quid, to pick up the 12v supply needed for starter solenoid. Never had an issue since..
I think the issue can often be the length and age of the wiring between battery at front of van and starter/solenoid at rear.

Hi there...so in that case it should be easy to eliminate the switch by simply running a good solid live direct from the positive battery terminal to the solenoid contact.....something like a 3mm2 to minimize voltage drop.
you could crimp a female spade on it for a good connection.. push on and yank it off when you've done. If there is a significant improvement you know you're on the right path.
