rear caravelle heater retro fitted?

tried to put the loom in for my rear heater (caravelle one) the weekend and on my old bus it was linked into the black / yellow wire with yellow covers on the ends but alas it doesent seem to be workin at all? any ideas what could cause this?
put some electric windows in me jetta earlier (gen vag) and had to tap into the yellow and black to power up the relay for the switches as that was the color on the loom! this only powers up when the ignition is turned on and running so.........
shouldnt my bus do the same? theres only a year between the bus and the jetta
ive got to plumb in my heated rear screen / wash-wipe and interiour lites also off my old caravelle so is this gunna cause me further probs when i come to fit all this when using vag loom ?
