Coolant from exhaust stud.

Hello All.

I have only posted a few times before and this is my first 'technical' question. I am currently replacing my exhaust with a speed shop stainless system.

I have removed to engine as several of the exhaust studs need replacing.

Now I managed to remove a couple quite easily, some will need further attention. However the bottom stud on the cylinder by the starter motor, (is that cylinder 1?) came unscrewed followed by a small amount of residual coolant which was still in the engine. The threads appear ok and I've tested it and it adequately holds the new stud. Is this normal as I wasn't expecting it? Or has the head eroded away inside? Prior to removing the engine it was running ok apart from a blowing exhaust around thermostat housing and poor running when cold, no signs of any coolant leaks/overheating or loss of coolant.

I've tried searching for similar issues but not found anything. And advice would by most appreciated.

I have a 1.9dg, pierburg 2e3, 4speed manual. 1984 hightop camper.

It might have had a stud snapped off sometime in the past and has been drilled out, but, who re drilled it has gone too deep. Someone posted a pic, might have been Itchyfeet( spelling? Lol) and there isn't much of a wall between the bottom of the drilled hole and the water gallery .
You may get away with plugging the bottom of the tapped hole. Sure someone with more experience of this will be along soon.
