Diff lock knobs - lost thread

Hi, both my diff lock knobs now no longer tighten enough for the front one. It looks as if the knobs have plastic thread first with metal behind. The sprung twist mechanism for the front means there is less thread for the knob to grip onto, so if the metal thread in the knob isn't reached. The knob just turns in the shaft meaning the twist mechanism isn't twistable, so the locker can't be engaged.

For now I've removed the spring twist mechanism, but would like to have it there.

Anyone else come across this and is there a solution?
