Hey all... we appear to have metal water pipes traversing the engine bolted to the gear box? Never seen anything like it before. ... syncro specific? ??

That'll be a wbx with its syncro frock on Em. All present and correct, not sure about the t piece on the left though.

That t piece Ian is the ring around the top of the engine bay...here's the uncopped picture

Think it has had a replacement engine at some time...may have started out as 2.1 poss? Some interesting cuts and fits. ....but until I mixed oul and water it never overheated. Didn't overheat at the end either.

looks like the oil cooler pipes to the thermostat housing have been bypassed, these are fitted on syncros whether 1.9 or 2.1, you should have an oil cooler fitted and the pipework around the top of the engine bay has been replaced with hose and t pieces - I have a syncro pickup distribution pipe for pickup here if you need it, though it's a 2.1 one, I'd have to check detail for 1.9 version, but I also have a 2wd one which might be correct for a 1.9 syncro.

Aidan thanks! Have a 2.1 going in lol. Yep...coolant pipe to oil cooler blocked off with a bolt. Seen that before. So should i put the oil cooler back in? Guess I should. The ring around the top is black plastic as well as hose....its plastic down the side and along the engine bay front. What is the distribution pipe you mention and where should it go? How much do you want for it? Thanksx

And what oil cooler??? Is it easy to plumb in?

The "interwarmer" that is sandwiched between the block and the filter. All 2.1 should have one, but ALL syncro wbx had them.

Had a quick visit to the new going in engine. Oil cooler present and correct x
