We have just had new electrics fitted in the back of our bus (plug sockets etc) as there was none. When we came to collect her the indicators weren't working but the garage says their work didn't cause this. I don't know anything about electrics (yet!) so don't know if they could have or not. Any advice as my husband says he's not going to pay for indicator repair and I can see this getting ugly! Thanks

When you mean new electrics, do you mean 240v mains?

If so it shouldn't affect the 12v system on the van, unless an earth for the indicators has been used as the 240v earth.

I mean I know nothing! We had it done with plug sockets and hook up, leisure battery, is that 240v mains?

The short answer is obviously that the work they did "shouldn't" have effected the indicators.
Did they do any work in the front of the van (in the dashboard area)?
Do the hazard warning lights work?
Have you checked all the fuses? (it's possible that they could have shorted something out while they were poking around !!)

Yes, the hazard lights work. All bulbs working apart from indicators.

OK - so if the hazards lights work (which is basically just 'all' the indicators on at once) then most of the circuit must be intact.
Have you checked to see if a fuse has blown (fuses in glovebox)? Sounds like the indicator fuse may have blown.

It's still with the garage, they say they can't find the problem!

OK - well, not a lot you can do then - but if the hazards are working then that's 95% of that circuit working OK - shouldn't be too hard to check the rest of it;
It's either;
1) The ignition switch or the wire from that to the fuse(s) (although I assume engine runs so it's probably not this), or
2) The fuse for the indicators (#11 fuse), or
3) The wire from the fuse to the hazard warning light switch, or
4) The hazard warning light switch, or
5) The wire from this hazard switch to the indicator stalk, or
6) The indicator stalk switch.

They also changed the stereo, could that have affected anything?

Again - in theory no, it shouldn't have; but it does mean that they have been messing around with wiring under the dash so plenty of scope for them to have 'disturbed' something!! Also much more likely that it was their fault as they have been messing around in that area - but really shouldn't be a difficult problem to track down .....

Don't rule out a missing fuse, especially if you have those old bullet style ones, that tend to fall into the glovebox. when my hazards stopped working I destroyed a hazard switch and pointlessly replaced a relay before I realised that the fuse was in the glovebox

They can also look OK but have a very fine crack/failure in them - so check them to make sure they are good.
And/or they can not be seated correctly - they may look to be good but not quite be correctly in their holders so give them a wiggle to make sure they are seated fully.

That is pretty appalling. They have fitted 240 volt mains and other leisure wiring, and a new stereo, but cannot find the fault of indicators not working when the hazards are ! Jeez...

I know. Have been highly recommended by others on this site too so don't know what it going on.... Very frustrated.

It's one of those frustrating things in so much as you are so far away from me. It is highly likely that I (and many others on here) could find the fault pretty quickly, especially in view of (as said above ^^^ by MidLifeCrisis) the fact that the hazards are working.
