wbx Gudgeon Pin removal DIY tool

I struggeled to do this today with my tried and tested method of a filed down M8 nut on the end of some studding and a big socket used as a slide hammer.

I have recomended to to somebody before and they couldn't make it work, usually its because they are tight with a burr that has formed and none of us have the right deburr tool.

I discovered it was also because some pins have a chamfer inside and the nut won't grip.

So I devised a method with a rawlbolt and it worked well.

You need a rawlbolt that takes a bolt not one with a stud and with a tube as a spacer so you can access the nut to tighten it, assemble it onto the studding and expand inside the gudgeon pin, than slide hammer it off.

just thought I'd share it, it works a treat I will be using it again. :ok

Nice one. I used a slide hammer from a dent pulling kit with a length of stud with a hook on the end. But as you say the gudgeon pin has a chamfer and it kept coming off. Dont particuly want to go there again though.

I followed advice from MM289 who knows his stuff. See my post dated 190312 on this thread: https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=99042" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I did it this way because I was worried about bending conrods by using a slide hammer approach.

I've now got an engine being built for me by a professional so more power to you for doing it yourself. :ok

Ok so it seems like this is not a new solution but i have not read aout it and when the question was recently asked by somebody this was not mentioned so a good reminder :D

Yeh you can pull the barrels off the pistons but that means the risk of cracking piston rings and then to fit new rings you need to glaze bust and that puts people off

Removing pistons and barrels together makes changing head seals much easier for the average DIYer
Because of the problems of removing the gudgoen pins people don't and refit the heads with the old lower liner seals

That's why I have this engine which was full of water after the heads were removed but the lower barrel seals were not replaced

I can't honestly see you could bend a con rod doing this the weight of the hammer is not enough

Sometimes barrels stick to the heads but with patience they can usually be removed without taking them off the pistons

Now that would have been useful - I used the M8 nut but it tended to slide over the chamfer...

If I ever have the 'joy' of doing it again I'll give this a go (mind you, need to get them back in first!)

Cheers,
