adjusting crank end float dg

Ok so I have an early and late engine to setup, there are subtle differences but there are three shims in both to adjust the end float

I know I can buy shims from 0.24mm to 0.4mm but my question, is there any reason why it has to be three shims ? I assume four would be ok as long as the float is correct

Any other tips? I have a good dial guage and stand ready

Thanks
Paul

Yes, its fairly well documented that people have used 4 shims sometimes although they often find once the crank is in place and the case bolted up, the bearings crush a little and they discover that they only need 3 so be prepared for that - sometimes things change once you start bolting everything back together. :D

thanks

you are probably right and only 3 are needed, but it may save swapping two 0.3's with 0.4's to have one extra 0.24, I will have to wait and see

only swapping flywheels auto to manual as long as the o ring is out, the surfaces clean and it's tightened up , I can't see what could move later.

cheers
