Air Cooled fuel pump leaking oil ?

My 1980 Devon van with 2l cu engine has leaked a lot of oil onto the driveway. The drive is quite steep and the van is parked front pointing downwards. There is an oil slick under the engine and down the drive. I have checked the oil level with the dipstick and level is well below the minimum.
I have looked underneath the engine and noticed oil dripping from the mechanical fuel pump from what looks like an overflow or vent tube.
This has not happened before, only since parking the van on the slope.
The van was driven 2 weeks ago and oil level was on maximum.
Please would you help.

Give the engine a good clean down and make sure it is the pump leaking. Any leak on a CU engine will track around the engine and drip off the lowest point. If you're parked on a steep slope the leak might be from the old favourites, the push-rod seals or the rocker covers if you're lucky. If it is the fuel pump the diaphram inside has probably split. Normally this pump petrol into the engine rather than the other way around though.

If it is leaking from the vent tube then the seal in the pump has gone and the pump needs replacing. You would be better of looking at fitting an electric pump and a blanking plate for the old pump.

Thank you BOXY and bigherb for your input. I think bigherb knows that the pump has worn out and it seems the best way forward is to fit an electric pump.
I would need advice about which pump to buy and how to fit it, so I will put up a new post.

A question for bigherb please. Your pic of the facet pump you fitted is great and thanks for the wiring diagrams. I have the 2l air cooled cu engine with stock solex carbs, do you have the same.
I have decided to go for what you have fitted, but would I need a pressure regulator?
I have an old mgb which has electric fuel pump, no safety circuit and no pressure regulator. It works well no problems and the su carbs have never overflowed.
So am I worrying unduly.
In your pump pic, is that a rubber mount between pump and body?
I welcome you help please.

Yes

If you fit the correct Facet pump, maximum pressure 4psi then no regulator is needed

You will need to ask for a 6mm outlet union, our application needs a 8mm inlet and 6mm outlet.
The mount is just so I could use existing holes in the chassis rail. No rubber mounts you can hardly hear the pump unless you have run out of fuel.

I forgot to say you can use a BMC A series fuel pump blanking plate.

Many thanks bigherb for your help and advice and the useful links.
Just a quick question, the block off plate, can I use the old mechanical pump bolts?
I will order the parts today and get on with the job. Thank you.

No just use some shorter M8 bolts 20 or 25mm

thank you very much bigherb, sorry about all my questions but glad I asked and you have the answers. I received the pump and other parts today, from your supplier, great service and price.
tomorrow off to get the bolts for the blanking plate.
my priority is to get the van started so I can move it off the steep driveway. I will look to do the pump shutoff safety circuit as soon as I can. presumably if the engine stops for any reason I could just switch off the ignition and the pump would switch off. Like my mgb does.
Where is best to get a live feed for the pump?
