Last week, some little toerag smashed my tailgate glass. By use of this forum I was able to track down a local replacement, courtesy of Trunkster, collect it on Sunday and press-gang the good wife into helping fit it Sunday afternoon. Result!

Tuesday afternoon, I assume it to be the same little toerag smashed it again!

I am now thinking of trying something less fragile (but stronger than the present shrink wrap that I have used) and am looking at using acrylic perspex. I should be able to get the required size piece of perspex for about £40, so a similar cost to a replacement.

Has anyone tried this before, and how did it go?

Finally, as the title suggests, would anyone be willing to take a paper template of a screen and post it to me to simplify the cutting of the perspex to fit. Pretty please?

If its happened twice my guess is when they find out the rear window can't be broken easily you side window will be next
You need to find out who's doing it

Also if I remember correctly perspex is acrylic and can be cracked polycarbonate is very much stronger but you need uv resistant grade

Sorry I don't have a spare glass to draw around but my guess if you could use the hole less a set distance which you could work out by looking at the seal

The voice of reason there. I think. I would hate them to start on the side windows as they are next to unavailable in the UK. Only one spare set that I am aware of.

Thanks for the clues on acrylic/polycarbonate, I was not aware of that.

As to calculating the size using the rubber, I had thought of that but was trying to take the route with a lower chance of ""cock"-up". I know my DIY skills!

Acrylic also cracks easily when you try and cut it with a jigsaw

You want polycarbonate, ie lexan, it is more than Perspex but tougher, better in every way.

I think its softer too so scratches easier

rear glass is curved in both planes, so a flat sheet of plastic wouldn't fit straight in, it would need to be heated and formed over a template, ie another rear screen

Thats a non starter then, 'cus if I had another screen I wouldn't need to do it

the vertical curve is so slight it would make no odds and the horizontal will form as the screen is inserted .

Couldn't agree more but have no idea how to suggest going about it other than to spend the rest of your life sleeping in it (assuming these attacks happen at night).

Have you mightily pi$$ed someone off recently?

Had some dog $h1ting on my drive recently so I borrowed my neighbours trail cam, infra red and triggered off PIR, caught it on camera but I think the owner must have spotted the camera as it was picked up and never happened since.

trouble is PIR wont trigger through glass so it needs to be aimed on the vehicle from a building, I positioned it on a bracket wedged through an upstairs window.

I'm sure there must be low cost infrared PIR triggered cameras.

I have three set up around the house. They work on motion detection and e-mail the images to me.

It won't stop toe rag but would some of that plastic film they put over door and window glass help stop it breaking up?

Not an expert but Lexan is used for motorcycle helmet visors and I've never had one 'yellow'; they have to be scratch resistant too.
