Heated Seats Operation

Hello, I appear to have heated seat(s) but have no idea how they should work - I thought that I'd ask before I have a test.
I'm guessing that I move the knob in front of the dash pod, but which way and how long does it take for the seats to warm up?
Is it a subtle heat or is it obviously warm/hot?
Finally is it normally only the drivers seat that is heated or should the passenger seat also have heating elements?
I think I'll test it out tomorrow pm as I'll be heading out anyway.
BTW I have a '90 LHD Caravelle GL converted to a Westy.
