Well at last I found an easy, cheap cure for those horrid squeeking noises that come from the top wishbone rubbers, even when they arn't kn@ckered.

And before you think "ah he fell for the old pitfall" - no I havn't potentially damaged them by squirting Oil / WD40 / Grease etc etc in there !!

Nor have I put the metal in jepordy with other chemicals that might cause corrosion !!

Well if this turns out to be a long time cure, I will readily accept all thanks, bouquets of flowers, pints of beer, boxes of pasties, free entry to all shows, etc etc

It is 4 days since I did it and it is OK so far.

The van is just so much nicer to drive without that annoying squeeking going on all the time, feels so much more like a decent vehicle and less like an old van !!

And of course it hardly cost a penny !!

I will tell you.

It is well known that washing up liquid is a good lube for rubber ( as used to help sqeeze bushes into track control arm sockets for instance ) but it is full of salt, not good for the metal bits of your suspension.

However I decided to liberally "paint" the areas where the rubber bushes rub against the metal bits with car shampoo ) similar to washing up liquid but with no salt and added silicone )

It seems to have worked like a charm Smile

imho I reckon it won't do any harm, what do others think ?

P.S. - I used Autoglym stuff.

I used a thin paint brush to get at the underside of the upper bushes, where they rub against the inner bit of the wishbone.

great idea...my old van used to do this no matter what you did with the wishbones, including all the usual solutions listed. but won't it dry out? guess time will tell...

luckily, my new bus is totally squeakless! so I guess I have the ultimate solution...get a squeakless bus!

It has worked for a few days, and as mentioned, driving it seems much more pleasurable with no squeeks !

Sadly I think it almost certainly will dry out and so be a temporary cure and may need re-applying every so often.

Any suggestions for summat that is rubber and metal safe that won't dry out ? (Steve and I tried aerosols of silicone, but no result with that)

Why not just use silicon spray thats designed for use on rubber?

Might be worth looking at a specific spray for rubber though, you're right there perhaps

just replace the bushes ,by the time youve done the cleaning and spraying and all the running about ,you'd have been just as well replacing them .. sorry to tiddle on you flame ..
