camper interior electrics for beginners

Hi,
Im rebuilding my camper but im a bit dubious of the the electrics that were in place. The van has a split chargerand a 240v hook up but not linked together.

I have taken everything out and started again. I have a fuse box and my plan is to hook the 240v up to the fuse box then run two 240v plug sockets dedicated for when were hooked up.

I have 12v spot lights that I am running direct to the battery, I am also planning on using an inverter for any mains appliances and another socket which will be 12 v only for the tv.

My question is are as follows:-

Do I need to fuse the 12v lights before it goes to the battery
can I use a battery charger /trickle charger when onsite from the 240v hook up to the battery to keep it topped up

or am I just doing the wrong way?

Yep fuse the lights, get an aux fuse box to allow all the other bits you will want to add to be safely fused,
The charger is a good idea but go for a but more than a trickle, perhaps a sterling 20amp (I've got one) or similar, that way it will charge and let you use it as a 12v source whilst on hook up.

Cheers

Si

Fusing - do it for everything on 12v, otherwise there is no protection at all from any shorts etc which could then go on to set fire to the sheath and subsequently the van.

Take a look at http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/V ... mepage.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for a good auto-electrics store.
