New to me Syncro

Hello, I've been lurking on here for a few months and recently posted on a few threads, so I thought I'd pop up a couple of photos of the Syncro that I bought a couple of weeks ago.
Hopefully I'll get to some of the meets to introduce myself in person.
The van which I'm sure some of you have seen before because it has been in the UK since 2006, is a 2.1 DJ Caravelle GL with added Poptop, Westfalia interior & 16 Merc wheels.
It was nice and clean when I brought it back home but a few trips up muddy lanes made a right mess all over it, so I gave it a quick wash off and took a couple of photos in a one of the rare moments it hasn't been raining.
Sorry about the image quality but it was very overcast.

Nice bus! Looks like someone has already done all the hard work for you. If the underneath is as good as the rest of it, you've bought a good 'un. Any idea what type of wheel carrier you have there?

The underneath looks good to me but as we all know, once the rust becomes visible there is usually a nasty surprise underneath.
Sorry I don't know what carrier that is, here are a few more photos:
There is a slight issue in that the bracket (2nd photo above) stops me opening up the flap behind the number plate, does anyone know why this is?
I might look at moving the number plate to the right so that I can access the dipstick and oil filler, rather than having to go in via the engine cover inside the van, see the next photo:

Looks nice.
The number should bend so you can open the flap. Not ideal but that's how mine opens. Not that I need to anymore since going tdi as everything is accessed from under the engine cover.

It does bend a little which is just enough to get to the dip stick and filler neck but it makes it a right pain in the %*$£. I'll look at drilling out the rivets and moving it over an inch or so (checking the number plate lights still illuminate it for the MOT).

Hi Mike
Nice looking van there. Hope it goes really well for you. Only thing it needs is a Tdi
Welcome to the money pit
There's plenty of friendly folk on hear with loads of knowledge, so don't worry about asking for any advice.
Cheers Rich

It's not perfect by any means (looks better the further away you are

). When I washed it I noticed that the paint/powder coat is flaking off the wheel carrier, so yet another item to add to the to-do list.

That wheel carrier is one of either Syncropete's or Syncronutz's ...... same thing really!
