Seasons greetings all, whilst parking up for a Boxing Day surf I lifted the hand break and snap !
Broken the the handbrake bar about 6" from the balance bar. Do any of you know of anything I could buy to sleeve the two parts with grub screws etc (Heath Robinson ideas welcome), I have checked wiki and i know it's a fuel tank down job to replace the hand brake bar proper, and on my quagmire driveway in the winter is a no go. Also is there a cable replacement that can be fitted without said tank drop, any ideas welcome

Bad luck. You coukd probably fabricate a bar from some suitably sized steel and drill the correct holes......but tbh youd be suprised that when you have to get stuck ibto dropping the tank itll be easier and quicker than u expect. You coukd always replace thise grommets and corroded fuel breather lines at the same time.....

you need an M6 "rod joiner"
and a short length of M6 althread rod.
An electrical wholesaler will stock the rod coupler.
I may be able to help if you can't get the stuff.

there is also a cable version to replace the original rod type

Sorry I read too quickly and thought it was the balance bar! Rod joiner seems like a great idea.

Thanks all, I'm now sorted. I took it to a local garage I use sometimes yesterday and he popped it on the ramp and welded some steel tubing to sleeve one end and some 6mm threaded bar welded to the other and is now solid and with new nuts and plenty of adjustment left

all for £30 bargain ! Very pleased.

glad your sorted but I could have sold you a good 2nd hand cable for less but you would still have had to drop tank whats not much fun in this weather
