broken hose but don't know what hose is of?

Hi all, this is my first post but I have been using all the information in the forums to fix small problems as they arise in the past.

Went to start the. Van last week and it was seriously struggling to start, I thought it was something to do with the bad weather causing damp electrics or something but that wasn't the case and it eventually started and ran grand for a day or to. Went to start it again at the weekend and the same issue. I can here it turning over and sounds like it is on the verge of starting but just can't get there. So I went looking and found a hose connecting some sort of filter to the engine. I have pictures but they won't upload for some reason. The hosing is that kind of ribbed flexi hose. It goes into this big cylinder that I assume is a filter. I think its something to do with the air and possibly because of the broke part at ignition not enough air is getting in to the mixture to start the van.

Any ideas? It would sound a lot clearer if I can upload the picture.

You're right! Upload your photo to Photobucket, click on the 'Direct' link to load the photo link into your paste buffer, then paste that link into your post and enclose it in IMG tags - i.e. put [/img] after the link and [img] before it (include the square brackets).

So basically these two pipes/hoses are loose

That's what I think is the air filter with those pipes attached and you can see one going into the engine

That's just a breather pipe and air filter to turbo pipe. It won't affect starting. It sounds like you either need to let the glow plugs do there thing or check to see if they are working

The old glow plug trick. Thanks for the reply I was thinking something along those lines until I saw those pipes out. Won't be home for 3 weeks now so won't get to do anything till then.

Are glow plugs hard to change if I need to do that?

Ya bud, turn on ignition and the yellow coil light lights up and stays on until I turn the key to start the van.

Leave it on till it turns itself off, if I remember correctly it can stay on up to 30 secs?
