weird pcb wiring...

noticed some rust spots on the pcg 14 pin connector -
up by drivers knee (rhd) -
thought i'd give it a gentle scrub up - and some electrical connector spray -
when i examined more closely -
none of the wiring corresponded to anything in the haynes - wiki - or some of the posts on here ?!?
PO butchery? lazy garage fix? bodge a job?
everything works ok -
but bewildered at lack of similar colour wiring in other posts and diagrams -

anyone got a clue as to the lay out and function of these odd coloured wires and their order?

the best i can read into it -
1.blue/white - instrument panel?
2.blue/white - high beam headlamp bulb?
3. vacant?
4. brown - earth/ground
5.vacant?
6. red - clock
7. yellow/red - coolant - temp gauge to sender
8. vacant?
9. lilac/purple - fuel gauge sender
10. green ? - oil pressure warning light?
11. pale blue - alt warning light?
12. dark blue - ign/battery?
13. yellow red - indicator?
14. dark blue/black - oil pressure light?

It's a G reg 1990 petrol model - so seems bizarre to have connections (12 - 13) where (on a wiring map) a diesel should have connections to?

Some photos to give you an idea -

any ideas ladies and gents?

as always - all opinions/thoughts/advice happily received :)

In the Haynes manual it does say that the wiring diagrams are "Typical". My mates 1983 1.9DF was different again. The colours did seem to mostly correspond, but the numbers in the 14 pin connector didn't.

My diesel doesn't exactly tally with the Haynes diagrams either, but again the wiring colours are mostly right.

There are a number of different instrument layouts. Presumably each one has its own connector pinout because the order the tracks arrive at the edge of the PCB depends on where they start from and, being a PCB, they can't cross over.

cheers for that Colin -
i'm guessing different years different owners different models -
are all going to make the connector variable too -
thanks for your comment :)

wiring drawings (all years after 86 - "G" VIN-year):

I think in the last years all the models had the same wiring band with all the wires. Except the engine side of course.

It works for me. The link is for a 100mb pdf. Try right click -> save as.
