Engine temp sensor

Hi there folks,

This will probably be an easily answered question but I wondered if someone could advise which the correct temperature sensor is from the photos below? It's the one sitting between glow plugs 1 and 2 (or 3 and 4 depending on which way up you look at it), with a black and yellow wire coming from it. The engine is a diesel 1.6td (JX i think) in a '89 California

I've just had the van back from the garage after having a wealth of electrical problems and other gubbins sorted and this is the last thing (at the moment…) to fix. The chap at the garage has said that it's definitely the sensor thats faulty as opposed to any wiring, earths or dash gauge issues.

I've had a check on Brickwerks/JK etc but I'm not sure which the right sensor is, I'm guessing it's this one.. http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/index.php/c ... -1699.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but could someone clarify? I've had a good search for annotated engine diagrams but I've drawn a blank.

Thanks everyone :D

Yes that looks like the correct sender/sensor for the water temperature gauge...whats the problem [if any ].
Ps,look in the "wiki" [diesel engine wiring ].

Cheers bud :) I'd checked the wiki so I was pretty sure I was looking at the right thing but there's a few different sensors on brickwerks and I didn't want to order the wrong thing!

The gauge on the dash isn't working but the chap at the garage checked it all out and found that it was the sensor not the gauge or the wiring - fingers crossed he's right!

Thanks again :)

Check the wiring colours that go to them.

Yellow/red - temp gauge.
Blue/white - Glow plug temp sender.
Red/Brown - Aux waterpump.

They all have a sensor earth return wire which is brown.

Glow plug and temp gauge use the same sensor, replacements are sold as "Black/Green" meaning the sensor has a black body with a green dot or stripe.

Aux water pump switch is listed as Black/Yellow.

Brilliant, thanks Simon :D

New sensor ordered from Brickwerks  as well as a new coolant hose which has worn through on the alternator drive belt and has been spraying coolant all over the engine…

Thanks for you advice :ok
