1.6 CS Diesel engine upgrade

Hi all. I'm new to the T25 world and loving it. I've discovered a fair dose of oil in my coolant tank, so I'm off to join the oil cooler pipes to bypass it, to work out whether it's really that or the head gasket.
I'd like to start off by saying thanks to everyone here, who have been so helpful with the abundance if info they give. I'm looking forwards to reciprocating as my knowledge grows - but I digress!
I've bought a running shell of an '83 tin top. So it's at the end of my garden. It runs and starts, moves and stops fine (I did the brakes and lines first thing!), it needs a few bits n bobs, but it's had some welding, and looks pretty solid.
I was looking at upgrading the CS engine anyway as 'management' has decided we're touring Europe next summer, and frankly a 1.6d is never going to cut it. I have trawled the forum all week and have seen the 1Y and AAZ suggestions, but the vast number of suggestions that I've read, have related to the JX model, not the CS. I did however, read a post (that I now can't find!!!!) about a chap who'd put a 2.0 GTi AGG seemingly straight into a CS setup? This sounds awesome, as I've found a suitable donor engine.
I'm not too worried about mpg, as I understand the GTi engine is quite good, and quite reliable too. Can anybody help / point me at a link, offer any advice? I'm betting there's a list of items I'll need, but unfortunately I'm new to the whole forum / dub camp.
Likewise, I'm keen to join the community, if there's anyone in SE London who needs some general spannering advice or anything else I can do. I'll be happy to help.
Mark.
