I had my t25 serviced in Spain and from what I can gather, with my limited Spanish, it is supposed to be running fine. The problem was a carb miss tuning. The engine rocked back and forth previously and seems much more balanced.

The mechanic disconnected a hose that went from the engine block to the carb (I have a dual barrel 'Racing carb') and explained it was better the air went to the "calle" or road. Is this advisable?

When I rev the engine without the clutch engaged it seems strong, but when in gear I get a strong burning smell when first setting out and then it disappears, but it seems I still do not have as much power as when it is not in gear. Could my clutch be going. I don't want to be in the middle of nowhere and not have it working.

Sorry for all the questions and my lack of knowledge. Your help is much appreciated.

What the mechanic suggested is I just disconnect the hose from the engine block while keeping it connected to the Carb and route the hose down to disperse on the 'calle' or road.

VW didn't do an 1800 t25.

Kev the Rev suggested I had a problem with the braided hose that goes to the brake servo when I had problems with compression in my two left cylinders.

The front brakes are binding slightly. I start out and I can smell them burning and then it goes away. Could this be a realted problem?

So that's the crankcase breather that he's dangled. Instead of oily vapours going into the air filter, then being burnt, they're now being thrown straight out onto the road. If that makes a significant difference to the running, then you've most likely got bad internal engine wear.

No. You need to dismantle, clean and lubricate the front calipers. If that doesn't help, then maybe the front flexi hoses are knackered, but the calipers just being gunked up are more likely.
