Help!
I've looked in wiki but it doesn't help. My problem seems to be air getting in the diesel when left causing a lot of starter cranking before she goes. then all is fine untill I next stop, 10 minutes later the same problem. I thought it was probably the Thermo thingy on the filter so changed that and got an improvement for about a day and then back to problems. If I look at it while its running the feed pipe is full of diesel, but the return is full of what looks like foam. When I stop the engine i very quickly get bubbles coming out of the pump back down the feed line. Nowhere are there any out leaks.When going its fine. Ant ideas anyone?

Tighten up all the fuel lines and use proper fuel clips not just jubilee clips then fit a non return valve inline and you will never get starting problems again

New seals needed on the injection pump. Suction side, therefore no diesel leak.

Thanks for the idea's I was thinking non return valve and maybe fuel filter with only two connections so return line goes straight back to tank.

If you fix the seals then you won't have to do any of that

I had this problem for 3 years in my 1.7 KY diesel. I put a one way valve and a hand pump primer so i could re-pump diesel to the pump. I have removed it now as all along it was simply the little rubber tubes that goes from one diesel injector to the next 4 or 5 of them all together. The last injector has a little rubber end cap on it. All of mine were in a very sorry state and the end cap was all but perished and leaking diesel and hence letting air in back to the pump. You should be able to get a length of the tubing and a replacement cap from most good motor parts dealers ( so that eliminates Halfords lol ) . I remember reading somewhere that the additives in diesel these days has additives that play havoc with this tubing causing it to prematurely age and fail! probably only cost you a few £££ and you literally just cut it to length with scissors and it just push fits into place. Worth giving a go! Best of luck.

new leak off pipes fitted 6 months ago and no diesel leaks so i guessthats not it. i'm reluctant to get involved with the pump, last time a rebuild cost me £400. Fitted the non return valve tonight so i'll find out if its any good tomorrow AM.

That will mask the symptoms but not cure the problem though.

Started ok this morning so I guess i've masked the problem. this cost me £5 so I hope it saves the situation untill I can save up enough pennies to do a proper job.
