Does anyone have the inside track as to whether or not VW or SDP are planning a T5 syncro? Id like to think they are. It would look excellent as an offroad vehicle. Hopefully theyll take a leaf from the T25 book and not the T4.

Ah right! So they use a haldex instead then! Interesting. At least the price is in keeping withg the original syncros too. I must keep an eye out for them. Id like to know if theyre raised up or have good underbody protection.

There was an article about them in 4x4 magazine back in July - I picked up a copy at Syncro-pendence. Said they were jolly good 'n' all that..... but then we would have expected that!

I'll still wager that you'll be picking up expensive bits of plastic bumper long after the T25 Syncros have gone home.

yeah I reckon so. Theyd want to be beefing it up big style if it were to compare to the Syncro. The 4motion and 4Xmotion haldex sounds impressive though! Would be nice to pop one of them into a syncro instead of the ferguson.

More elctronics? GET STUFFED!

The great thing about the VC is it requires nothing electronic - it just works!

There is a T5 4x4, called 4motion, but it is basicly for the road.. wont cope with the offroad stuff the T25 will.. its traction device is traction control so applys the brakes.. saw one in action at the french 20year do.. managed the very steep slope forward and backward, but did struggle for grip.. oh and "normal" high 1st gear didnt help...

There was a T5 4Motion in action briefly at the French Syncro 20 Ans bash in July. Jean-Luc had managed to borrow one, and took it for a spin up the main slope just near the campsite, both forwards and in reverse.

Despite having a big TDi motor and that fancy Haldex drive, it only *just* managed the slopes the T3 Syncros were taking in their stride..

Hey Ross, next time you see an ESB T5 have a look at the badge on the back. They have taken delivery of a number of V6 TDI 4 Motion Caravelles and Vans

Don't think they have much if any underbody protection... and they'd not have an axle weight distribution like the T3 (48/52 ish)

Well this is good! It means the T25 is still the king of the offroad!

Ill have to have a look at the ESB vans actually. I know a chap who works as a liveline jointer for ESB networks and he said he remembers (and drove) the T25 syncros they used to have and loved them. He was admiring mine for ages!
