Curved panel under window?

Morning chaps, I was investigating a rattly sliding window on the van this morning and noticed something slightly odd - the curved panel under the window (green on the pic below) has been cut right back on my van at some point in the past.

i know from the previous owner that the van had work to remove rust around the windows, so I'm guessing this is when it was removed. My question is, is it ok without it??

Everything around it is solid.

well mit appears to have been factory glazed. is the area green missing or has it been rewelded.
if missing then lets have a picky closer up to see whats left, but as long as somme of the inner is there (near the seal) then it should be ok ,

Hello MM, apologies - I should have said that's not my van, I found it on google and used it for reference.

The bottom of the window has a metal panel that runs along the bottom and slopes toward the outer skin. The green bit appears to have been removed.

From what I can gather, the work was done by a reputable workshop :?

OK, thanks MM, will endeavour to get a pic later. If too much has been removed does it compromise safety, and is it reversible?

I'm massively disappointed

Seriously though, if it's not crucial to the integrity of the van, I'm not too fussed.

bit of rough work there
your window is in a metal frame so has some rigidity,i assume the whole frame is held ok and not moving in/out,
not a safety issue,

Cheers MM. No, nothing is moving at all.

So the piece that was there - which I'm assuming was steel - what would be the reason to remove it?

Thanks very much for the advice and your time :)

cant tell from your pickies, sometimes to fit deeper worktops etc (done this on my van but it was a panalvan conv) maybe it was rotten or whatever, if it was to do a repair then i cant think what, and to not bother refitting it if it was in good order would be characteristicly llazy

Aye it's that it's been left like that. Not to worry - as long as it's not unsafe to remove that panel, I'm not overly fussed

Thanks very much for your help MM, very much appreciated :ok
