New Turbo

Anyone had experience of buying a new turbo or a reconditioned one ?
I'm looking at what appears to be a new turbo for a 1.6TD at around £500 against £350 for a reconditioned one with some new bits .
Perhaps I could find one secondhand, but not sure I'd want to take the chance of fitting it and finding it no better than the one I have. Smoking / down on power etc.
Also, does a blown turbo actually do any damage, other than the unit itself ? Got a mechanic looking at it soon, but he leaves me to get the parts and he fits them.

I had turbo seals go not long ago. Endend up with around 4.5 litres of oil coming out of my tailpipe. Needed to change exhaust as a result.

I used CR turbos a few times and I'm always very impressed with the turnaround time and workmanship. And they use genuine KKK parts. All 3 turbos redone by them still going strong. Cost me £250 to have a K14 redone. £280 for the K13 off my AAZ.

Save yourself the mechanic costs. Its a relatively easy job to remove turbo and send to be redone then putting it back on. Change of oil, then your done.

Good luck.

The new turbo your looking at is a copy...it might be a good casting..or it might not...a reclaimed kkk one will be a good casting...I would go rebuilt myself..
