Diesel Engine Battery Dimensions

Need a new battery for the engine bay of my diesel van. It's at the garage for at the moment so can't check the dimensions! I'm thinking it will be cheaper for me to buy one than let them replace it!
The websites are suggesting a battery with a dimension of 278mm length by 175mm width and 175mm height. Can anyone confirm if that's right? It's a standard battery tray in the engine bay as far as I am aware. Was thinking of exide premium 72ah with 720cca?
Thanks

Yes, those dimensions seem correct (although i am at work so cannot measure my battery and confirm)
The height is the real problem!!

Yes 'Low Profile as in 175mm and not standard height which is 190mm. Code 096/100 batteries fit.

You don't need a low profile battery for a diesel - well mine isn't anyway. Just measured it - 190 as I thought.

fair enough...that is a quote for front VW battery boxes.
However these sizes do fit and are quoted on many of the battery websites for T25 Diesels.

Thanks for your help with this. Van back up and running now! Auxilliary shaft seal went on 6 month old engine so van spilled most of its oil all over road..... Not happy! Battery died at same time due to hazards being on for hours I guess?!
