I need a bit of start up advice on what to buy or what set up to use.

I currently use a Camping Gaz 907 bottle and they are expensive to run with - £25 per a refill and a lot of campsite don't seem to stock them.

I was tempted to put a wanted add for a larger propane or butane (red or blue bottles) as they seem better value, but folk have mentioned LPG tanks (Westie ones to be specific). I've got plenty of room under the van for a tank but not sure what type are suitable.

I've seen these tanks on ebay, but are they only for supplying the engine on petrol models?
Should I go for a tank or a refillable bottle??

Obviously I don't want to spend out too much But the main things is, what will I need for any of the two set ups?

The 907 tanks cost £25, but how long does yours last? Do you carry a spare one?

While the LPG gas is cheap to buy second hand LPG gas tanks are not cheap to buy so you need to weigh up the cost options. Larger butane/propane tanks are a cheaper option. However you still have to buy the first tank(s) which are not cheap either.

They are only for the engine.

I have what I consider a better version of those in our van.

They are great, clean, tidy, plastic, and have a see through panel so you know how much gas is left. They are so cheap to fill that I never have to consider the cost of running the Propex etc They just plumb into the same pipe as your 907 used. You just need to buy a Propane type regulator like THIS.

Sounds like a good idea - I shall have a read on their website

I still want to look at the idea of a tank uner the van as the gas bottles (x2) take up storage in the van (in a cupboard only accessible from the back doors of the van.)

I fitted an underfloor LPG tank for the hob, coolbox and propex.
Brilliant! I fill it once a year and it costs about 8 yoyos at time.

The downside is I have to remove it every 2 years because it has no TüV but that's not a big job.

I have an undeslung tank fitted by Steve at gasure. Holds the equivalent of 6 x 907 bottles and costs £8 to fill. If you're going through 4 x 907's a year it wouldn't take long to get your money back; after that you'd be laughing your ring off (cooker ring that is )

How much was it Bren ?

I can't really say as I had everything done as a job lot, ie engine and leisure tanks. Not sure if there's just one size of underslung tank or not; give the man a ring and ask?

TinleyTech supply all the bits needed for approx £180 all in. On my "To Be Aquired" list.

Thanks for all the advice. Very tempted by the underslung tank, I shall have to contact Gasure, TinleyTech and have a mooch local too.

I was almost going to go for the bottle but it will still take up valuable storage space.

I'm not afraid to fit something like this myself, has anyone got any links to diy kits or just the tanks and fittings?
