I have a noisy regular VW PAS pump.
Its fine if in straight ahead but any turning and its quite aloud whinning.
I've checked fluid levels and all seems okay. Hasn't been used for 6 months, but don't remember it being that noisy before. Don't know how old fluid is though.
Any ideas how to cure?

Can't help much, but I'd start by changing the fluid and filter. I done mine not long ago and couldn't believe the "pooh" on the old filter.

Do you think that's what's causing the 'winnie'in'?

whining is caused by air/cavitation, so either there is insufficient fluid in the system or the flow is impeeded or the pump rotors/body are worn or the pump internal seal is leaking or there's a problem with the rack, changing the fluid and filter is easy and cheap to do and refilling the system with a fresh filter will eliminate the first two issues

Okay, I'll start with the refill/filter route. For me, The sudden increase in noise points to air/blockage.
Where to get a new filter?

Did it fix it or were you being very organised & just part of your van maintenance?

Actually only fitted the PAS a few weeks ago so the new filter is to be used in a fluid and filter change to remove any crud that was introduced during the transplant surgery.
