Hi,
I am currently doing loads of work to my van see my main thread for details you you are at all interested. The final plan is to have the van Matt white with matt black bumpers, mirrors, window frames etc. So i have the rustoleum but the matt stuff doesnt flow anywhere near as good as the gloss which i have used on the trailing arms and various other places i have painted.
Its this common?
This evening i have just painted the front bumper and a window frame but the brush strokes are not flowing out as they do with the gloss. 75% paint 25% white spirit applied using foam brushes.
Im just hoping when i roller the main van that the finish is better.

Any help? or advice would be great.

Cheers
Ben

The crucial thing with matt is to spend a VERY long time mixing or it'll be inconsistent. Shouldn't be a problem with a roller but if you paint it on too thick (too easy with brushes - foam OR bristle) then you will get rather poor results. In fact, matt is a very different ballgame and will be more dependent on thinner ratio and thickness of coat than gloss, which is far more tolerant.

Hi CovKid,
First coat on the bumper i used unthinned and with a normal brush this was awful. I have just checked what i did last night which was 25% thinners and with a foam brush and this is far better i think this should be ok for the window frames.
How is the matt for spraying? I have just bought a compressor with a basic spray gun. Might try that on the other bumper.

Cheers for the help
Ben

bumpers etc being done inside, only thing outside is window surrounds as they have to be done ASAP so i can get the windows back in. Really dont want to leave a tarp over it all winter!

You might be better off just banging some cheep rattle can paint on for winter then prepping and doing all the van in spring , just an idea. Don't want you wasting the rustoleum

Well, the small gloss rollers have rounded ends and providing you don't overload the roller. you should be able to do window surrounds.
