Hi All

Had my 1.7D just three weeks now and have noticed with all this rain that water pools next to the battery in the rear quarter down from the air vents. I assume it is coming in from the rear corner vents? Anyone know a cure for this? Does this mean it's possibly coming into the air intake as well?

"They all do it mate" as the garage would say. It's why they always rust there. I have not heard of anyone trying to stop it happening, though many, including me, get in there on a hot dry summer day and treat the whole area (as long as it is sound) with a good clean then a couple of thin coats of Vactan (Google it / search on here for it ) then a coat of summat else of your choice. I used red oxide primer and smooth white Hammerite. Only do it when it is totally dry in there, esp in the hard to get corners / seams, so too late for this year

Re intake, as long as you have all the standard air inlet pipes in place it will be no issue.

Ok, will keep mopping out for the next few months then! One more thing re the air filter side - does rain actually go down the ducting towards the filter then drain out? Think I need to investigate more at the weekend....

I've never owned a Diesel T25, so I am not sure of the intake pipe layout.
I guess that if it is standard it will be fine. Hopefully a Diesel owning person will be along soon to confirm (or disagree).

I've always wondered why the vent grills face up. It would be so easy if they faced downwards.

why should there be?
It's not like your having to sit in it, or it causes any problem to the function of the vehicle..it even evaporates away so you dont have to clean it up.
I had the rear of my van rebuilt and that panel made because it rusted away from outside.
Like I wrote earlier, the panel has a center dimple..put a 5mm drill through it.

I attached a cable tie to the rear corner of the plastic vent (as per the water torture post in the wiki). Maybe i've been lucky but i don't seem to end up with any water in there now.
I think it just makes the water flow along the cable tie instead of into the rear corner.

So that hangs outside your van? It would drive my OCD nuts! I'll try something similar, and drill a drain hole I think.

SA buses have a drain hole in the middle of the crucifirm pressing in the panel, around 8mm dia iirc

reviving this thread as I wondered about the rain getting into the ducting for the air intake a couple of years ago. However my van had some parts missing - the snorkel fitting (part 251 129 533 B) inside the plastic grille at the top of the intake void. this attaches onto the top of the intake flexihose and then clips into the void behind the plastic grille facing "backwards". My understanding is that this allows air at a higher pressure (forced into the rear of the void by the movement of the van) to be forced down the snorkel. This is the set up for at 1.6 TD and I presume that it is the same for others.

that also makes sure that no rain goes down the flexihose.

Ours is a 1.6TD too (Syncro).i sprayed the area with waterproofer and will drill a drain next time the battery is out. The other side goes into the air filter via a dust separator, so I assume the water is drained out before that stage?
