Syncro gearbox input shaft..

Trying to swap petrol and diesel input shafts over between boxes.

Got the circlips off both boxes and pulled the sleeve forward till it contacts the diff but still can't unscrew the input shaft from either boxes...? I've rotated the diff to attempt to get the sleeve even further forward but no joy!

What am i missing here?? How tight is the shaft screwed up??

can't really be done with the diff in situ for a syncro difflock box, need to mark and remove the adjusting rings to get the diff out of the way to be sure of doing it right, seen lots done wrong and it can get expensive - even the 2wd 2.1 four pinion diff is very difficult to do insitu, though the normal 2wd 2 pinion diff can be done with care but even then it still get's messed up lots, I've seen many dozens of poor input shaft installations

the stud should be fully screwed into the mainshaft finger tight by hand and then the input shaft screwed onto the stud fully home and then backed off by a spline and the muff lowered and the new everytime circlip fitted into the groove and checked that it's in the groove, the input shaft will be slightly loose that is correct

Thanks for that Aidan.

Can you tell me what the adjusting rings are and where to mark it up please?...pics would be very helpful if possible.

I really need to sort this asap so i can get my truck back on the road!

Cheers, Craig

Aidan can the tool for removing the adjusting rings be bought or rented from anywhere?...or am I going to have to vet something made up to do it?
