Front Wheel bearings shouldn't look like this, right?

Looks like I'm missing a few rollers! Is there any particular type I should be asking for when looking for a replacement?
Thanks

Strip it down and see what has worn before ordering parts (Brickwerks is your friend)
Chances are it's just the inner/outer bearings and their races, an inner seal and outter pein nut. However, you might be unlucky if the inner part of the bearing has spun on the stub axle and worn a grove.

Beejesus, look at the discoloration and lack of grease - been running mighty hot by the looks of things. I bet if you look at the rollers they will be blued rather than shiny. At least you can justify buying new ones rather than just tightening it up!!!!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Just to get this straight in my head, the bearing outers sit in the brake disc itself and the rollers contact the axle directly? So the danger is that if the bearing debris or remaining (now misaligned) bearings have damaged the axle then I'm looking at replacing that too?
Thanks all

Thinks there was a bearing change about 1985.
Bearings have a 'model' code scribed on the solid parts, might be worth cleaning them and confirming this when you order the new ones ... which are definitely needed!!!
Do look at the comments re the correct way to fit/adjust new bearings. Too tight = short bearing life, also greasing before fitting.

These are 'Taper Roller' bearings where the rollers run on a 'race shell' that has an interference fit (knocked into the disc)..The inner part of the bearing pushes snugly over the stub axle and under normal circumstances does not turn with the wheel, however, when bearings 'pick up' and begin to seize, they have a tendancy to drag this inner part around through excessive friction and in the process this can often wear a groove on the stub axle.
I hope this makes things clearer....as I said, time to strip things down and examine before drawing any conclusions.

I would buy both sets as mine is 1985 and one side is early and one side late

Isn't the bearing type dependant upon whether the brakes are early (fixed dual pot callipers with rectangular pads) or late (floating single piston callipers with crescent shaped brake pads)
I thought it was just a case of looking at the calliper type which then would determine whether you needed early or late bearing sets.

thanks for the extra info everyone. I've taken a look and my van is a 1984.
My full chassis number is WV2ZZZ25ZEH123405 so I think I'm safely after 25ZE023827, which seems to be model number where the switch occurred.
I'll get it to bits soon adn take a look, but I'll order the bearings now, so if that's all it is, I'll be able to switch it over and get driving again
Thanks

Brickwerks ...
http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/index.php/t ... -late.html
Early = up to chassis number 24E 023 827
Late = from chassis number 24E 023 828
If your confused - ask!
You've quoted your VIN number not the chassis number .. that should be on your V5

Thanks Ian. That's the same number as is on the V5 under VIN/Chassis/Frame No.
The only other number is the engine number, which is DG064261, if that helps.
Here's the VIN plate in full if that helps?
