Evening all - hopefully theres a few out there who have replaced their blower motor under the dash.

Followed the wiki (theres good guides on this), got the dash off smoothly however now stuck getting the heater casing out. According to the guides there are 2 Phillips screws under the front grill holding the heater casing but I cant see them! There are two bolts with square nuts on just above the rad but these look like they could be the other ends of the two lower interior fixings. The guides suggest there are 4 x size 3 phillips screws holding the casing internally - I'm pretty sure I got 6! Any pointers or abuse appreciated

I never removed mine. How are the 2 halves of the heater casing held together, some have clips some are bonded mine was bonded. I prised the 2 halves apart and replaced the motor then rebounded with silkoflex the unit back together. The good news is no draining and refilling.

As above... No need to go anywhere the front. As already said the front just comes off with a little help and a few screw drivers!!!

No screws behind front grill. just the 6 big ones inside. 4 going into the bulkhead and 2 into the crossmember.

That sounds like good news!! Will have a crack at spliting the casing tomorrow in situ.

Now only have to work out how to fix the heater controls - always wondered why my demisting vents never worked - turned out that the plastic fixing tht holds the cable in place was broken (perished I guess). Bit of a b**tad!!

Only the later models from about 1988 had the screws behind the grill.

OK - update for those who may be able to help!

I'm splitting the heater casing in situ - managed to split it both sides and front but how the heck do you split the back seam with it in situ (apart from mullering a screwdriver blindly in there!).

I'm not aware that they can be split in-situ. I have had mine out and apart several times and would not even consider trying to do it other than on the bench.

Remove the screws holding it in but not the hoses you have just enough space to split it.

Heater housing is out! Gonna have to add the removal of 2 snapped bolts to the list as a couple of the mounting bolts were seized/rusted good n proper and sheared off!
