Have a Autohomes camper which appears to have some sort of heater in the rear, which im struggling to work out how it works. The control unit pictured below is fitted to the side of the sink/fridge unit and there is what appears to be a heat outlet pipe under the cupboard to the left of the fridge. Please could someone explain, in simple terms, how this heater works, i.e. is it connected to gas somehow, and how do i use this control panel. Many thanks in anticipation of your help.

What's in the cupboard next to the fridge where the heat outlet pipe is? Big orange metal box thing with 1600 printed on it?

Actually it might be for a water heater. Do you have one?

You don't usually have ventilation and half heat settings on water heaters!

Quite simple setup by the look of it.

Turn gas on.
Set desired temp.
Select full or half heat.
Switch on with flame labelled switch.

Or ventilation on switching flame switch down.

Just a friggin' after thought matey, I had already pointed out the heating bit

Both switches to up position and stat around to max and gas on if it doesn't light the red led will illuminate if it lights the green one will might need to try it a few times then control it on stat. Good luck

Just tried following the basic operation steps above, tried half a dozen times before red light would go off, but only for a couple of seconds. Ive checked the gas bottle to ensure enough gas, there isn't a huge amount left in the bottle but a very small amount can be heard as bottle is shaken. Does there need to be plenty of gas remaining in bottle to ignite the burner, would more gas give more gas pressure?

Just a thought but you have taken the cover off the external gas vent haven't you .....

Ady, with the greatest of respect, and only saying this for the safety of you and your family, saying you are not sure whether this heater is connected to gas or not indicates that this type of thing is not one of your stronger subjects. With that and safety in mind please may I suggest you get it looked at by someone who knows about such matters. There are many pitfalls that can occur, leaking gas connections due to age, leaking rubber pipes, faulty safety sensors, leaky / blocked exhaust gas flue. The exhaust gas flue might not even be there, have you checked ? Any of the above could easily prove fatal, literally.

Please get it checked, then get the person who checked it to explain to you all about how it works.

As above said do check the system and yes it might be an issue with a low amount of gas in the bottle, get yourself a bowl of soapy suds and wipe around all the gas joints and watch for any leaks and rubber gas pipe had a shelf life so might be wise to change it
