Our new van (the purple people eater) needs rear seatbelts. We are completely cackhanded and as we don't want our children flying over our heads (with seatbelts firmly attatched) when we next need to do an emergency stop, we don't want to have a go ourselves.

Does anybody know of any decent restoration specialists in the Hampshire area (we can travel a bit but as the speedo is broken..not at any great speed!!) We need someone who is not going to laugh at the van , or shake their head while sucking air through their teeth and someone who won't tell us that a whole load of stuff also needs doing when it doesn't.

I don't think a restoration company is what you want unless you are restoring the van to its origional condition...ie without belts

...maybe a mechanic at a garage will advise you of what is involved and how much it's likley to cost.
I'm sure that there are people on here that can help with the purchase of the right belts to be fitted by a good garage...try an MOT testing station as the standard of fitment must be up to a high level to pass the MOT

We have spoken to one or two garages including a VW one and they said try some restorers. We probably haven't spoken to the right garages, one man bands and smaller places are likely to be a better bet. Good idea about the MOT testing places, I will get my better half to try them!

if is just the seat belt mounting poistion i will try to post a pic of my van without the interior so you get an idea of where the points are

Headley18 is definitely your man, had him do work to my Westy several times. I also need a 3 point seatr belt fitting.........must chase him up on that

If you have a wardrobe on the drivers side you will only be able to get one 3 point seat belt in the back on the near side (where your sliding door is). If you do not have the fixing point, get a welder to spot weld on a plate (from Just Kampers) and then fix in a 3 point seat belt (from Just Kampers). I fitted mine in an hour, including drilling a hole for the fixing bolt of the reel. Being a woman, I find it better to avoid garages where the definately suck teeth, and their is no point asking the 'better half' if I want it done this decade or properly.

Give it a go, you'll be amazed how easy it is and how much you will save. I live in Hampshire if you needed more help.
