After too much pain and lost camping time the engine might be working well now but the oil filler tube is rusted through and leaking. (I am told) I can't get to see it so....

Is it possible to get it off and put another one on without too much trouble? i.e.. removing the exhaust system or taking the engine out etc.?

Deffinately doable without taking too much off but I have to say I have only done it when removing the engine so I can't help much
This post says it can be done with engine bar in place but not sure what else has to come off

You'll need a very thin open-ended or pathetically thin ring 13mm spanner and LOTS of patience as access is poor.

I suppose you could just take a grinder to a standard open end or ring spanner

I read of somebody on here or byard who's drain plug was stripped so it would not come out he was draining the oil by removing the filler tube each time

I've butchered spanners before (I used to have F ords) but it's 'head room' around between the nut, the tube and the crankcase that's the issue here.

Yeh ive done few imes a bit fidley I did it with a socket.

the job of removing the oil filler tube is a very simple one.

you DO NOT need to remove the engine support bracket.

the job takes about thirty seconds, using a snap-on ring spanner, or better still, a halfrauds professional combination spanner.

halfrauds is the better of the two.
