Yet another question about dash tidies

At Busfest I saw what looked like a nice dash tidy, and I'm kicking myself for not buying one there and then. Maybe someone can help me track down the retailer.

My van came with the cheaper one-piece JK version, so I know it's not that one. The one I saw at Busfest was more compact, and seemed a lot more sturdy, but I don't believe it was a two-piece version. It seemed like a fairly substantial moulding, with a matt black finish. The retailer had quite a range of trim clips, hubcaps, jailbars, VW badges etc.

The only versions I can find online are the two that JK offer (my flimsy one and the more expensive two-piece one) and a LHD version with a fold out map tray. The one I saw was not one of these three.

Any ideas?

Have you tried Gunzle or Go Westy in the states?

Thanks Steve

It looks like it could be this one from Gunzl.

Can anyone comment on the quality of this tidy? There's not much of a description on the Gunzl site. Is it hollow brittle plastic, or something more substantial?

From the picture I think the windscreen edge is at the bottom, so the cup holders will end up towards the passenger side, but I think they'd still be within reach. Is there perhaps a RHD version?

Oh....and is there a UK retailer perhaps, so that the delivery charge isn't another half the cost of the item?

Yes, you've got a point. I've thought about going 'nude', as I'm about to add door pockets and a floor mounted drinks holder, but my dash is missing the ash tray, and a previous owner drilled into it to fit the current dash untidy. I guess I could just get a replacement ash tray though. Don't tell me, "hen's teeth"?

Ashtrays? Brown or black?
Most of us take them out to fit cb's in the ashtray hole.
Recon there are loads laying around.....

Black please, if anyone out there wants to sell me one I'd be very grateful.

I filled the back of mine with expanded foam to make it feel more substantial. Gives you more choice as some of the better tidies are very flimsy.

That's a neat idea. Yeah, my existing tidy is very flimsy, and it was fixed in slightly the wrong position such that the front edge overhung the dash and the whole thing's now permanently curved. If I replace it then a new flat one with foam filling would be a good option.

I have this one and use it well. It is sturdy enough to drill into to secure my 12v fan to. The cup holders are pretty deep (though mine are used for Fireman Sam and a continental LPG adaptor!)

Would recommend.

One of the first things I did when I got the van was to ditch the flimsy carbunkle on the dash and blank the holes off with plastic hole blanks from the local motor factors (filed the shank down to fit the holes) or you could just fit dome head pop rivets into the holes and paint the heads black.

I also painted the dash in-situ very carefully with black hammerite and it came out very well. I then cut a piece of anti-slip matting to fit the recessed area from the passenger side to the ashtry so my sun glasses wouldn't fall off

Yes, that's what I was thinking too - black anti-slip matting, with maybe a hole where the ash tray is so I can use the ash tray to hold my phone - I've yet to see an ash tray though, so I'm not certain that'll work.
