Backfire issue

Hi
Wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction.
My 1983 1.9DG has been sat on drive for a few weeks (Drive is on a slope).
I went to turn her over and when she actually started, she idled as normal for about a minute, then made a loud knocking noise and then stalled.
On restarting, it sounded and felt as though she was a couple of cylinders down or timing was out (serious shaking) and then there was a loud backfire.
I have new sparks & HT leads. Checked the dist cap & rotor arm and both in good condition, they are relatively new too.
All pipes seem to be intact and attached as they should be. New inline fuel filters were fitted at end of last summer and look clean.
She was running fine before being parked up.
Does have a tendency to have loud tappets after being parked up for a while but they go back to normal after a drive but this had a very different sound.
