Gearchange issues

Okay did the nylon bush changes to the base of the gearstick a while back and it made such a difference, though lately i have noticed some reluctance to engage 3rd? Feels like it is not finding the slot. If i change from 2nd and let it rest into neutral momentarily it finds it no problem 99% of the time??? I have no issue with any other gear???

if it's a box issue it's possibly the 3rd 4th synchrohub breaking up, but I say IF, and there's no way of knowing, and there may be no trace even on the drainplug magnet and it can work like that for along time, if the problem starts being 4th as well then that's an indicator and time to budget to rebuild or replace
it could also be a selector shaft wear issue or even a major bearing issue, the first isn't often major and very hard to detect and the latter would normally make some noise
it could be a linkage issue like a cracked uj in the middle or split boot/dirt ingress at the back

Thanks for the input Aidan. So many probabilities, just a question of which one. I will get underneath yet again, recheck all my old work to make sure it is all in the right place and snug tight, then work my way back towards the actual box. Oh the woes of owning one of these little beasts :ok

Yep, that's what our's felt like. 'Sticky' changing to/from 5th especially when hot ... nothing on the magnet, no difference with new oil and then 6 or 7 months later crunch and grind ... broken synchro hub and recovery o'clock.

Let's hope it's something else

Well, we aim to please. :ok

Best be knowing the signs for these things and with a bit of luck if you ignore it you'll break down close to home ... we were near Brussels :|
