groaning noise from steering

Hi Guys

The last couple of weeks I've noticed a sort of groaning noise that seems to be coming from the steering. I notice it especially when I've just started the van, and I'm reversing out of our drive, so it's as I'm putting the steering onto full lock. I don't really notice it once I've got going or just going round a corner.

Any ideas? sound like something serious? I've been putting off going to the garage but think I may need to bite the bullet and get it investigated before we drive to somerset in half term.

cheers
Jane

Power steering pump at full kilter....does it stop when you back the steering off by an inch? yes? power steering pump groaning as they do...obviously check levels and belt adjustment.

Do you have power steering as Martin suggests ? If not it is probably a dry or worn bush that is being compressed/moved whilst on full lock. I had this on my anti roll bar bushes, a squirt of silicon spray can sort out if they are just a little dry.

Yes we do have power steering, so I think it may be that. Thanks!

Thanks guys. It was the power steering. There was a leak and they had to replace a pipe. But it's all back to normal now. :-)
