in coming positive

hi all,
just looking at wiring my stereo in to both batteries via a relay as per wiki...
how ever i am slightly confused as to terminal 86 being incoming positive.. where should i be getting this feed from?? is it 12v switched/ permanent? etc???


as it stand my stereo is wired in using main battery.. the permanent and switched live are joined together before stereo will this still be case after the relay, sorry im a little confused

Hi Dubslug

As I read that diagram, I think 'ING' is just a typo, and rather than meaning 'incoming' it means 'ignition controlled', so it's a 12V switched live.

As per the diagram, your radio's permanent live (for maintaining preset memories and other settings) can come from either battery, presumably because it draws only a very low current. I haven't done this mod yet, but when I do I don't think I'll take that memory backup permanent live from the relay-switched feed, as I'm guessing there's potential for the memory to be wiped during the brief switch over that the relay will do once the engine is turned on.

Bit pointless fitting a relay if you have a leisure battery and split charge then it is connecting to the starter battery anyway.

So you mean just wire the radio to the leisure battery - when the engine's off the radio's fed from the leisure battery, when the engine's running they're both connected. Makes sense.
