Oil warning light: not lighting at start up

This small job is a large part of why my van was off the road for a year... Time to follow through:

No oil warning light when I start van (or at any other time!).

I have cleaned and emery'd the connections on the two sensor.
When I earth the wire going from the sensor on the engine, the LED lights fine. Not so when I earth the wire going from the oil cooler sensor, nor when I put 12v through it from battery terminal.

I've had a look at the wiki, searched etc, I've got a bit of an idea of the general principles (.3/.9 etc) but can someone please tell me if there's anything else I should do before buying one or two sensors? Engine came from a Caddy, aparently.

thanks, again...

Sounds like the sensor to me too. Not sure about a caddy engine, but I just changed both of my sensors this weekend. Was cheap and easy.

I just noticed you are in Hay-on-Wye. I will be camping there next Friday - Sunday at Hollybush.

good luck,

John

yum yum!

I'll see about changing them then. I'll see if my local VW dealer can tell me which ones I need: I'm still not certain exactly what engine the van's been fitted with.

Incidentally, if anyone had the time to explain the logic behind the start-up testing sequence it would be much appreciated.

And John, swing by if you're around. Flat 3 (side door), Poplar House, Hay. Opposite the closed-down petrol station. Far end of town from the Hollybush. Kettles always on, or at least plugged in. 01497 822877
