My pal had the same issue, though with another company.
welded three times..even beefed up the bracketry, but it continued cracking.
now gathering dust, and a more forgiving mild steel one fitted

Its a problem with stainless steel exhausts that gets overlooked
It will eventually crack people think they last forever

I have a brickworks one, not had any cracking in almost three years, I did however have a weld fail and it was replaced no problem with a new part .
Because the brickworks ones are in 5 pieces the joints between them make them less likely to crack and they are of top quality

Smallcar '08 vintage 'stainless' header cracked to buggery, welded three times, finally gave up and ordered current model. Its 2kg heavier and a different grade. so fingers crossed..

My Speedshop one cracked it's bracket quite early on in it's life and I have not corrected this as I read somewhere that it's not that important. It has been like that for a year now, no signs of any other cracks, but will be keeping an eye on it! I have emailed VW-SpeedShop asking them what guarantee they offer. Will report back on what they say.

I should qualify all of this by saying that the Speedshop silencer was certainly made by Phoenix (their distinctive logo on the can) but I can't tell you the vintage of this system.
In hindsight, what the "can" needs is a horizontally slotted bracket to allow for expansion, along with a bit of a re-design to make it more durable.
As has been said, s/s does not mean it lasts forever, although a H&S system may well outlast your van!

I wonder if they have modified that rear silencer to pipework support bracket that always breaks yet ?
btw, @ Mr / Ms Frood

- It will sound quite loud when you first run with it, but as it gets sooted up a bit inside over a few hundred miles, it then goes quieter

Maybe they'd like to see my photos and comments in the syncro thread?

I think Andrew at Campershack said that the silencer box is lighter now than earlier ones, maybe to prevent these problems, done 3200 miles since fitting,no problems so far
