RUST IN TAILGATE STRUT MOUNT

Sorry if this has been covered but a laborious thread search has missed it if it has....I have corrosion in the strut mounting plate halfway down the tailgate shut line. It needs welding but looks a poo job to do ( I wont be welding it but it will be poo for the man that does and hence expensive for me....). Any tips for making the job easier (ergo cheaper)? Rather stupidly I have filled it with waxoil so it will have to wait anyway.....

why will it have to wait just cos you waxoyled it, it will still burn off/out,
i will post a pick up maybe tomoz showing the line the water takes . it is a desigh feature/failure? but water is directed down this area
not such a bad job to do , well relativly easy realy so dont worry overly ,
can you post a pick up as it would save a lot of time guessing answers for you

Thank you, MM I should have upped a picky but twas getting dark....appreciate the reply and yes I can understand the waterflow now that I started waxoiling! This hinge mount was my biggest worry (for now) till I saw the rusty roof pics on here now I am worried about my factory hi-top too!

here you go,
Image
this little slot drains the area you see and down to the thin double skin behind the strut mount, ,double edge sword really as if you block this then it collects above and rots that, (dehler has done it anyhow.... :(
and also all the water that runs of the rear of the roof dissapears as it should along the inner top of the aperature and down the 1/4 pans between the rubber and the outer edge so 25 years = work
