Morning chaps, would anyone happen to know what size bolt holds the lower half of the thermostat housing onto the upper half on an early cooling system? Also the bolts that hold the housing onto the water pump?

Thanks for any help :) :ok

Ian, you're a star - thanks very much.

I'm guessing that to change the thermostat it's just the two M6s to remove the lower housing? Haynes is a bit sketchy on the subject :D

Cheers Kev, I'll bear that in mind. I think the old one is sticking open as the van is taking forever to warm up and using loads of fuel - would it be possible that the existing one is fitted wrong?

As a consolation I haven't heard many people say they have had problems removing the lower part of the thermostat housing . It's usually where the housing bolts to the pump, or where the pipe coupling fits (part 10) that causes the problem for those that wade in there.

Say it's so!

A bit of luck would be just the job.
