oil change question

Hi,

Ive recently got a camper i think its a 2.0 Aircooled engine.

I bought parts for it off the internet and following watching the just kampers video.... but i admit i never looked under the van as I work away and wanted the parts ready

I have dropped the oil and expected it had the oil catcher - siv style filter. but it has a standard oil filter.... is this normal or has it been converted.

The van is a 1981 Aircooled van.

I bought lots of oil when halford were selling it for £10 so i just dropped it without the filter. I had problems with van starting seemed like the timing was off. Also found oil in the air filter, i think the last owner over filled it. now its starting on the button and sounds great. could it have been that?

1 grille at the front + 2 carbs = 2litre CU engine

1 grille at the front + 1 carb = 1600 CT engine

Both have filters.....

and 'sieves' ......2 litre has one nut... (be careful... look at 'Ooops' thread}, and CT has 6..( like a beetle/bay)

Check the dipstick....
