A couple of months ago our camper began to stall at roundabouts, traffic lights etc but was fine when moving

Not knowing the history of the ignition system I replaced the following with parts from Brickwerks:
Coil
Dizzy cap
Rotor
HT leads
Spark plugs
Also replaced fuel filter and checked conical filter were fuel pipe goes to carb. which was clean, and checked/renewed vacuum pipes

However during last couple of trips when engine is hot it starts to missfire,loses power and is undrivable.
After about 45 minutes it will run fine for the 10 or so miles home. I am scared of taking it any furthur in case it happens again.

I have just replaced the fuel pump with Brickwerks unit but this hasn't solved problem.

Any ideas?

excluding what you've replaced and checked, Haynes manual says:

Engine misfires throughout the engine speed+ engine hesitates on acceleration:

Fuel tank vent hose blocked or fuel pipes restricted
Uneven or low cylinder compressions

Engine lacks power:

Incorrect ignition timing
Uneven or low cylinder compressions

Engine backfires:

Incorrect ignition timing
Exhaust valve(s) burnt

Fuel tank vent hose blocked; try opening the petrol cap to vent and see if there's a difference. I hope this helps...you may already have a Haynes manual.

Think I need to investigate fuel system further

Whilst still looking for clues to mis firing/stalling I noticed the HT lead to no.2 cylinder is actually laying on top of the engine casing and no.1 lead is very close.

Wondered if the heat from engine could cause mis firing ?

Also found fuel pipe clip on feed to pump loose. Although no apparent sign of fuel leakage ,could air be dragged in? [fuel pipe is tight without clip]

no to both.
stalling engine is a classic symptom of a weak mixture when warm
If this does not occur when the engine is cold then there is an air leak.
chief suspect would be the choke pull down unit
If you search this subject it has been well covered and should return a lot of posts on this subject.

After experiencing our first mechanical breakdown that I couldnt sort out somehow (high up on the Yorkshire moors in the driving rain), I conceded to calling the very efficient RAC, symptoms were the same as yours undriveable, stalling, kangarooing, the odd backfire. RAC chap blew out the carb with the and gave it a spray of the cleaner and it drove 180 miles home without a hitch. Went to start it again yesterday, same symptoms after just a mile down the road. Today I removed the carb and took it to work and gave it a thorough blow out. Running fine again so far touch wood fingers crossed.

I now have a choke pulldown unit and carb gasket set on order.

Hiya Paul, sounds like you need a good blow out then giz a ring if you need a hand ( not with the blowing out )

I had a similar problem with mine a few years back. Ultrasonic cleaning and stripping of the carburettor sorted out in the end.
