It is a very nice van.
Few paint blisters here and there, but otherwise very solid. The interior is ok too, although not strictly our cup of tea.
Needs bigger wheels and tyres to start with, and does anyone have a set of under body bash plates spare?
We will be getting the rust treated and a spot of welding done, then the whole thing will get under sealed with Waxoyl to preserve the condition. It's been dry stored every winter, which helps immensely, but came withy whole van cover.
Then we have decisions to make: keep the Joker badges and trim, or strip them off and return it to a pseudo fire truck in homage to its roots? It's not the original red, but we wouldn't change that.

I think we're favouring a nod to the Firewehr, perhaps removing the Joker trim lines and logos. Then we can add the fire markings and telephone numbers etc.
As for the colour, it looks glorious in VW Masala Red now, the original was an orangy / pinky red with white bumpers and grills. So the body colour may stay ( it looks more fire engine red anyway) and perhaps the bumpers may go white again...
It has a reinforced floor with chequer plates riveted in and strengthening bars inside, supposedly because of the water container it carried. Also extra grab handles and ashtrays!
No blue lights or radios though.
We also have all the original decommissioning paperwork and some original photos in the Firewehr configuration. Nice bit of history.
